Our Boards and Commissions

Indiana cities are governed by a mayor-council form of government, with the mayor serving as the executive and the city council serving as the legislative and fiscal bodies. The mayor is elected to a four-year term and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the city. The city council can have five, seven, or nine members.

What is civic engagement and what does it look like?

Community Work

Intentionally connecting with the work that is happening in our city, especially, but not limited to, volunteering, learning new information, being aware of current events, and coordinating with others to generate and share resources efficiently.

Citizenship

Participating in all democratic functions of our society as outlined by our rights and responsibilities as a citizen. This can include voting during elections, running for public office, and intentially learning how to speak up and express your vision for your community.

Consideration of others

Valuing the differing opinions of others, while maintaining calm and civil discourse. Being willing to listen, make decisions based on fact, and ultimately working toward the greater good that benefits all citizens within the community.
